Even if you’re not in the 47% you may be able to afford the Tesla Model S. A flashy bite of American steel with a base price of $58,570 that is competitive with the entry-level Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, and Audi A6. This efficient, beefed up hybrid is pimped out with so much luxury you will forget that you are riding on an electric power train. But don’t think this car is merely a dressed up Prius, Tesla claims it has 250 patents pending for the Model S and more in the fire. But don’t take our word for it.
