Standing 6ft 7in tall and tipping the scales at a lean 275lbs, Wes
Shivers at first glance is an intimidating force. It does not take
long though to realize after talking to him for a minute, that he's a
gentle giant. As long as it's outside of the octagon.
The
Brandon, MS resident and former Mississippi State standout was drafted
in 2000 by the Tennessee Titans. He also played for a short stint with
the Atlanta Falcons.
Just to make it to such an elite level of
play (NFL) is an amazing accomplishment in itself. Now "The Perfect
Storm" Shivers emerges in the MMA world.
Wes has been fighting
as a mixed martial artist in Mississippi, usually on the local Psychout
Promotions cards in the Jackson, MS area, and a time or two down on the
Gulf Coast. Shivers has gotten some very good training experience
working with current UFC fighter, Alan Belcher down on the Mississippi
coast.
This past Wednesday night on Spike TV, Wes made his
national television appearance on the new Ultimate Fighter "Tuff 10"
(Heavyweights) show. Shivers was selected over thousands of other
fighters that tried out for the show, and now will be seen living in
the same house with famed brawler Kimbo Slice.
During the
premiere of the show the two head coaches, former UFC light heavyweight
world champion, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, and former UFC light
heavyweight world champion, Rashad Evans, got to pick their teams.
Shivers was picked by Rampage, and will be teamed up with famed fighter
Kimbo Slice.
The first showed aired this past Wednesday, and
according to Spike TV "Tuff 10" it was viewed by a jaw dropping 4.1
million viewers. This mark shatters all of the previous Ultimate
Fighter shows. In 2006, the "Tuff 3" series was viewed by 2.6 million
viewers, and at the time was the number 1 viewed Ultimate Fighter show.
To see more of Wes Shivers and Kimbo Slice, and the rest of the UFC "Tuff 10" cast, tune into Spike TV on Wednesday nights.
