Boxing News

Calm Before the Storm Promotions is the boxing promotional group founded by Two-Time World Title Challenger Akondaye Fountain. Under the direction renowned trainer Ronnie Shields, she is currently the number one ranked contender in the super middleweight division and now has a second role focusing her attention on being a world class boxing promoter.

Calm Before the Storm Promotions will host its 2nd professional boxing card on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Stafford Centre, 10505 Cash Road Stafford, Texas 77077. A Press Conference will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 4420 Ave P Galveston, Texas 77550.

This event will highlight some of Houston’s most inspiring boxers such as Akondaye “Calm Before the Storm” Fountain (7-2-1, 4 KOs), Galveston’s Felix “Bad News” Cora, Jr. (20-3-2, 10 KOs), Texas titlist Alfonso “El Tigre” Lopez (17-0, 14 KOs), Tiffany Junot (7-2-1, 5 KOs), Alicio Castaneda (7-1, 4 KOs), Jermall Charlo (6-0, 2 KOs), Vashon Living (1-1, 1 KO) and Terrance Woods (6-0, 4 KOs) of Bay City. Special guest appearances will include Houston champions Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz and Rocky Juarez.

While Akondaye still maintains her interest in fighting for another world title, her focus is shifting to life outside the ring. Through the years, she has made herself known throughout the network of professional boxers and fight fans. Now, as a promoter with an understanding of how professional boxing operates, from both a fighter’s perspective and as a business venture, Akondaye intends to promote other young fighters with the same fire she used to climb up the professional ranks provided them with the opportunity to rise to the top of their sport.

Ticket prices are $25 for general admission, $35 for floor seating, $75 for VIP seating, and ringside tables can be purchased for $600.
